In short
- The best kind of ad: Several products with prices got 0.44% - 29% more clicks than one product with its price (0.34%).
- A price: with it, one product got about as many clicks as without, and several products about as many clicks as without.
- Several products: a grid got 20% more clicks than a single product.
- Taller phone sizes: 320×100 got 1.62%, the thin 320×50 strip 0.18%.
What makes a banner ad work
- One product per photo, on a plain background. At 45×29 pixels - a tile of a 320×50 ad - a lifestyle photo turns into noise.
- The price in plain view. It answers the first question before the click, so the clicks that come are from people who accept it.
- Several products in the bigger sizes. A grid gives a shopper more chances to see something they want.
- The store name and a button. A shopper should know whose ad it is and that it can be clicked.
- A border or a background colour. White product photos on a white page melt into the content around them.
- Little text inside the image. Names are cut in small sizes; the photo and the price carry the ad.

| One product, with its price | A best seller or an offer | 0.34% |
| One product | A product that needs a big photo - furniture, art, jewelry | 0.35% |
